FULL DAY CLAUSE-BY-CLAUSE DISCUSSION ON THE DIRECT TAX PROPOSALS IN THE FINANCE BILL-2017 HELD ON 4TH FEBRUARY, 2017 IN INDIA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE, NEW DELHI

FULL DAY COURSE ON PROVIDENT FUND LAW ON INTERNATIONAL WORKERS, INDIA'S SOCIAL SECURITY AGREEMENTS, AND KEY ISSUES IN EXPATRIATE TAXATION HELD ON 22ND OCTOBER, 2016
A Full Day Course on Provident Fund Law on International Workers, India's Social Security Agreements, and Key Issues in Expatriate Taxation was conducted on 22nd October, 2016 in the India International Centre, New Delhi with the objective to facilitate participants to better appreciate the background of India's entering into Social Security Agreements with various countries vis-a-vis International Workers, and the technical and practical aspects of such agreements. The deliberations of the Course were divided into four technical sessions. At the outset, Ms. Rina Mandal, Regional Commissioner, International Workers Cell, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, giving an Overview of India's Social Security Agreements and Policy on International Workers explained at length the background as to why the bilateral social security agreements were necessary for the international workers - whether such workers were emigrants or immigrants. She also shared the difficulties that were faced by such workers in country/ies with which such agreements were not in place as at present. Mr. Puneet Gupta, Director, Ernst & Young LLP, Guest Speaker in the Second Technical Session, took the participants through the legislative provisions in relation to the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 and the Schemes formulated thereunder, viz., the Employees Provident Funds Scheme 1952, Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme, 1976 as also the Employees Pension Scheme, 1995. He then presented an analysis of such provisions in an easy to understand manner. In the Third Technical Session, Mr. Steve Rao, Director, Global People Movement, Publicis Sapient and Mr. Puneet Gupta, Director, Ernst & Young LLP, Guest Speakers, dealt with nitty gritty of the provisions/articles of Social Security Agreements entered into by India with various countries and presented them in an easy to understand manner. The last - Fourth Technical Session - was devoted to Taxation in respect of Inbound and Outbound Expatriate and the Key Issues in relation thereto. The deliberations were led by Ms. Sonu Iyer, Partner and National Leader, People Advisory Service, Ernst & Young LLP, Ms. Manisha Pande, Global Transfer Pricing Leader, GE Oil & Gas, and Mr. Vijay Iyer, Partner and National Leader, International Tax Services, EY India, Guest Speakers. Each session was followed by Questions by the participants and Answers thereto by the Guest Faculty. The Seminar was well attended.

1-DAY COURSE ON TAX AUDIT UNDER SECTION 44AB HELD ON 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2016
A 1-Day Course on Tax Audit under Section 44AB of the Income-tax Act, 1961 was held on 3rd September, 2016 in the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. The deliberations at the Course were divided into two technical sessions. While the First Technical Session was devoted to the Clause by Clause Analysis of Form 3CD, in the Second Technical Session- the topics 'Practical Challenges faced during the tax audit by Corporates' and 'Tax Advisors Perspective on Tax Audit' were deliberated upon. Each session concluded with a Question Answer Session wherein the doubts expressed/queries raised by the participants were clarified by the guest speakers. The Course was participated in by 45 persons.
